Introducing

Sara Taher
!
Based in Canada, Sara is originally from Cairo and has been doing SEO for 7 years and worked with many major international brands. She loves SEO and all things UX and CRO. She was a startup founder in the past and graduated YC online startup school bootcamp. Outside of work, she likes to volunteer and plays Mario and Civilization (which she almost never wins)!

We asked her everything from how she first got into SEO to what empowers her to be the brilliant woman she is 💪🏽

How did you get into SEO?

I created an online woman magazine in Arabic where women can share their experiences and knowledge. I had a team of copywriters and I was responsible for everything tech and marketing. I wanted to drive more traffic to the website and this is when I stumbled upon SEO and never looked back ever since! Long story short, I was able to drive the website traffic from zero sessions up to 90k sessions per month in a year. Our website got natural backlinks from MSN and Masrawy (the biggest Egyptian portal).

What is your favourite SEO task?

Auditing! be it technical audits, content audits or even simple UX audits. I like to find ways to make things better and auditing gives me this. I like to explore a website and find ways to improve its performance in SERPs. I also like to analyze competitors websites and find out what is working for them and why and learn from that.

What is your go-to tool or resource that you can't live without?

Google Sheets and its script editor! I'm in love with this Google product. I cannot imagine my life without it. I start most of my tasks with a new Google sheet and work from there!

What is something you learned in SEO that made you have an 'AHA' moment?

Experimenting is very important in SEO. It's not about how much you read about SEO, it all comes down to how much you have actually tried yourself. All good SEOs had their own websites at one point or another and this is where they get their unique insights and experience which differentiates them from other SEOs.

What is your proudest industry achievement?

The proudest moment in my career is every time I work on a new website and make it take off with SEO. The happiness and sense of achievement this brings never gets old!

What advice would you give women who are starting out in SEO?

Build your own website and experiment there. Learn to have patience as SEO takes time to learn and time to see results and never ever give up!

Give a shout out to a woman in the industry who inspires you and tell us why

Lily Ray, I love her work and her knowledge. Never fails to impress me with her answers and experience!

Finally, what empowers you to be the brilliant woman you are?

I love what I do, I truly love SEO. I do it as my job, I also do it on a volunteer basis to help small businesses. Passion beats anything else, and I have a heart for SEO!
