Meet Navneet Kaur!

Navneet is a Toronto-based SEO Consultant with a knack for technical SEO and content marketing. She started her agency-side journey in 2015 and left it for full-time freelancing in 2021. When not working, she loves gardening and exploring new places.

We asked her everything from how she first got into SEO to what empowers her to be the brilliant SEO she is 💪🏽

How did you get into SEO?

I started as a Social Media Analyst in an e-learning company, where I fell in love with Google Analytics.

I used Universal Google Analytics to track traffic from their LinkedIn posts using UTM parameters to understand which posts were generating traffic and which ones were actually driving conversions, which was fascinating to see.

I, later, came to realize that Google Analytics is used mostly in SEO, and that’s when I switched from social to search. I believe this was the best decision ever!

What is your favourite SEO task?

Troubleshooting problems like traffic drops, indexing issues, and miscellaneous technical problems are my favourite tasks.

As challenging as they are sometimes, they are exciting, too, as I have to uncover hidden issues just like a detective would.

The most satisfying thing is implementing effective solutions to improve website performance and actually see the results in GSC.

What is your go-to tool or resource that you can't live without?

My go-to tool is Sitebulb. I love the variety of data I get from it, and all the new features added to it. It's my preferred tool for crawling websites and checking their health. It’s also a cost-effective choice, making it a smart investment.

I also love GSC as it's really cool tool to understand the indexing issues and the current performance of a website.

What did you learn in SEO that gave you an 'AHA' moment?

The time I understood the right process to do keyword research.

Keywords are important, but most of the times, we start with learning about a business followed by finding right keywords before kicking off the page optimization process.

I learned the importance of creating buyer personas before doing keyword research and matching them to the user journey stages. This helps to create content that nurtures the audience and leads them through the buyer's journey.

What is your proudest industry achievement?

I got featured in Aleyda Solis’s newsletter in 2022 and was over the moon.

Being featured in the newsletter validated my industry experience and opened doors to new opportunities and connections within the SEO community.

I’m still grateful for that.

What advice would you give those starting out in SEO?

Don't be afraid to share ideas and speak up, even if you're NEW TO SEO.

You will be surprised that your unique perspective could help solve a problem or improve a process.

Also, most newbies think they don't know enough and their opinions don't matter but that's not the case. Those in senior SEO positions, too, embrace continuous learning and appreciate learning opportunities that come their way. Therefore, always be confident and never underestimate the power of your voice and ideas.

Give a shout-out to someone in the industry who inspires you, and tell us why

I'm thankful to our favourite Areej, for creating such a wonderful community with such great standards and awesome community members. The community is judgment-free and everyone is really kind.

A big shout out to Roxana Stingu for being a wonderful mentor and one of the best SEOs. I'm thankful for the feedbacks and guidance I have received from her.

I’m also inspired by Chima Mmeje, Myriam Jessier, Jess Joyce, Jamie Indigo, Pavithra Sekar, Lily Ray, and Sara Tehar for sharing their knowledge with everyone and being so humble. Lastly, I’ve literally come a long way so, shout out to me for tring my best.

Finally, what empowers you to be the brilliant person you are?

The strong urge to try and learn new things helped me a lot professionally. However, that also stresses me out; not gonna lie. In general, it’s really good to be curious and find new interests every now and then.

I draw strength from the support of my family(especially my mother) and friends, who are my biggest supporters. I'm also thankful for the SEO communities such as FCDC, Women in Tech SEO, and The DMU where I meet new people who encourage me to do better and are there to help me out.
