Interviewing Nicole Lee

Welcome to a new WTSInterview edition, where we interview brilliant SEOs in our industry and share their stories with the world! WTS members are welcome to share their story by simply filling out this form; we encourage folks from all walks of life in our industry to do so.

Introducing Nicole Lee! Nicole is a content and product marketing manager at Upland Software, which is based in Vancouver, Canada, and San Francisco, USA.

She is a big April Dunford fan and loves seeing how SEO can improve different marketing and business functions. She speaks six languages and is also interested in multilingual SEO.

How did you get into SEO?

Before graduating, I was interning at a food blog, and one of our main goals was ensuring our articles and social media content went viral. That experience taught me a lot about SEO while eating at some of Singapore's best restaurants.

When I graduated from university, I was working at a car dealership as a marketing coordinator and had to learn about SEO localization to get more customers through our door. SEO has been a big part of my career from the very start!

What is your favourite SEO task?

I like content planning and writing for SEO. Lately, I've also been interested in how SEO can help product marketing stand out, especially with BOFU content.

What is your go-to tool or resource that you can't live without?

I want to say Notion... but also Opal. It's an app that blocks all my distraction apps so I am actually productive when I need to be. SEO wise, I love Clearscope.

What is something you learned in SEO that made you have an 'AHA' moment?

Internal link! Internal link! Internal link! Information architecture is just as important.

What is your proudest industry achievement?

Increased organic traffic across all our products by 700%+ and ensured our blog posts ranked #1-3 for our keywords to drive $1.38M USD in pipeline in 8 months

What advice would you give those who are starting out in SEO?

Read. Read. Read... and do! Start experimenting and trying out things with the tools and access you have.

Give a shout out to someone in the industry who inspires you, and tell us why

Nadya Khoja! Had such a great time meeting her at the WTS conference in Portland, and she has such a refreshing take on SEO/content/career development.

Finally, what empowers you to be the brilliant person you are?

Meeting amazing women like in the WTS community!
