Introducing

Rebecca Fox
! Based in Newcastle, UK, Becky is an SEO Consultant for NORTH. With a key focus on tech SEO, she spends most of her time auditing, analysing and reporting for a wide range of clients. In her spare time, Becky loves cooking and playing indie games.

We asked her everything from how she first got into SEO to what empowers her to be the brilliant woman she is 💪🏽

How did you get into SEO?

Fresh out of studying advertising and marketing at university, I got a role at a digital marketing agency. Here I learned about SEO from some great mentors and ended up working in the industry ever since. I worked both in-house and agency side, in a variety of sectors, for several years before finding a role I love focusing on tech SEO.

What is your favourite SEO task?

I really enjoy analysis and reporting, so for me, it’s either tech audits or building reports/ dashboards for our clients.

What is your go-to tool or resource that you can't live without?

Screaming Frog because it has so many powerful/ customisable features. SEMrush and Ahrefs also have some brilliant auditing features that I use on a daily basis.

What is something you learned in SEO that made you have an 'AHA' moment?

Every day seems to be filled with these moments when you do tech SEO! I think learning how your tools can support you leads to my favourite AHA moments - like realising a manual task you’ve been spending hours on can be completed at the click of a button.

What is your proudest industry achievement?

I’ve always been most proud of achieving increased conversions, revenue and visibility for SMEs on tighter budgets. It’s definitely a challenge but makes a huge difference to the client and brings the biggest feeling of pride in my work.

What advice would you give women who are starting out in SEO?

Try and learn as much as you can from others and never be afraid to ask for help. Tech SEO can sometimes feel like quite a solitary job (and as an introvert, I can’t complain!) but sometimes the easiest way to solve a problem is just to ask other SEOs. It could be the simplest fix you are overlooking, a unique quirk to a CMS that someone else is familiar with, or even just a task where you need to bounce ideas around. Most SEOs are likely to be flattered that you approach them and are happy to help!

Give a shout out to a woman in the industry who inspires you and tell us why

Aleyda Solis has a fantastic blog and has always been very inspiring when I’ve had the chance to watch her speak live. I really appreciate that she shares tools and usable resources with other SEOs too!

Finally, what empowers you to be the brilliant woman you are?

Being surrounded by a supportive team! The interest in SEO from my teammates at NORTH and the excitement over what we can do from a tech perspective is such a driving factor when it comes to what I do.
