Key research findings are highlighted: 29.9M SERPs analysed, 22.6% poisoned on page 1 or 2, 43.5% poisoned at the September 30 peak, and poisoning 1.5 times as frequent on page 2 as page 1. The AMA takes place November 10 at 4pm GMT / 11am EST / 8am PST in the WTS Slack #digital-analytics channel, against a colourful abstract background.

WTS & Nozzle

If you’ve been to WTSFest Philly or Portland - you’ve likely met the wonderful Derek, Duncan, & / or Boyd of the Nozzle team.

Long-time supporters of WTSFest, when we reached out to the team to share that our community members had questions on their latest research - they jumped at the chance to answer them through this AMA.

Thank you, Nozzle team! 💜

Three members of the Nozzle team pose in front of illuminated WTSFest letters and a colourful mosaic wall. Boyd (left) and Derek (right) recline playfully on the floor with their arms raised, while Duncan stands behind the letters with both hands raised in peace signs.

Join us live in the #digital-analytics Slack channel on Tuesday, 10 November at 4pm GMT for an open conversation with Derek Perkins about Nozzle’s Poisoned Google SERPs research & what it means for SEO reporting.

In the latest update to Nozzle’s research, the team analysed 29.9 million SERPs & reported that 22.6% of the SERPs judged on both page 1 and page 2 had been “poisoned” since 13 September. These are complete, normal-looking results pages where many of a keyword’s usual sites were missing.

Page 2 was affected 1.5 times as often as page 1, & the rate reached 43.5% at its peak.

The findings raise practical questions for anyone using rank-tracking data: how do you separate a real ranking change from unreliable collection, explain unusual volatility to stakeholders without creating unnecessary alarm, & check your own reports with confidence?

AMA is for WTSers who are:

→ Using rank-tracking or SERP data to monitor performance

→ Responsible for SEO analytics, dashboards or leadership reporting

→ Investigating sudden ranking volatility or unexplained visibility drops

→ or who are just generally curious about the research!

Meet your AMA expert:
