Introducing

Aleksandra Beka Jovicic
! Based in Serbia, Aleksandra is a freelance SEO consultant with more than 5 years of in-house experience in SEO and partner marketing. Her main specialties are content writing and link building.

We asked her everything from how she first got into SEO to what empowers her to be the brilliant SEO she is 💪🏽

How did you get into SEO?

My first marketing-related job was a mix of writing. I worked as a digital marketing assistant for a coworking space and did a bit of everything (social media, blog writing, email marketing, paid ads, etc.). At some point, I realized I was having difficulty learning about all of the marketing at once and decided I wanted to specialize in something.

I liked SEO the most out of all the fields, so I applied for the role of SEO Outreach Specialist at a Belgrade-based startup. The rest is history!

What is your favourite SEO task?

I love doing gap analysis, both with keywords and backlinks. Every time I find a new opportunity in this way, it feels like I found a pot of gold.

What is your go-to tool or resource that you can't live without?

I love Semrush's SEO Writing Assistant, especially when I write content for my own website. I don't have an editor, so the tool helps polish my articles.

What did you learn in SEO that gave you an 'AHA' moment?

I realized that the key to link building is in partner marketing, not sales. When I started doing link building for a living, I thought it was about how good I could sell someone the idea of linking to the website or content I was pitching. Over time, I learned that the best results come from mutually beneficial relationships that I nurture for months and years. The relationship-building mindset opens doors that the sales mindset doesn't even see.

What is your proudest industry achievement?

Getting to write for Semrush's blog! I've used their tools and learned from their resources since the beginning of my career, so getting to write for them and educate others is like a dream come true.

What advice would you give those starting out in SEO?

Get comfortable with failure and rejection as soon as you can. If you don't get comfortable with those, you'll play small to avoid those feelings. But if you can learn to bounce back quickly after failing or being rejected, nothing in this world can stop you from succeeding.

Give a shout-out to someone in the industry who inspires you, and tell us why

Lizzie Davey's course and resources have been a tremendous help in building out my freelance business this past year.

Finally, what empowers you to be the brilliant person you are?

I love the process of learning and improving. I love looking back at versions of me from a year, 2, 3, 5, or 10 ago, and to realize how far I've come and how much I've improved over the years. That's what keeps me going.
