Introducing Eleni Tarantou! Eleni is an SEO Specialist at Skroutz, Greece’s leading marketplace, where she delves into the unique challenges of optimising a large-scale e-commerce platform. With five years of experience across diverse SEO landscapes, from niche blogs to multilingual e-commerce sites and from agency roles to in-house teams, Eleni brings a well-rounded perspective to her work. She’s passionate about technical SEO and thrives on continuous learning and growth within the field.

How did you get into SEO?

I completed an online digital marketing course, while working as an entry-level analyst, where I stumbled upon the world of SEO and was immediately fascinated by its potential.

What is your favourite SEO task?

I love doing technical audits! From 404 pages to missing canonicals, the more issues a website has, the more satisfying it is to prioritize tasks. This is especially true for international websites, where hreflang adds its own level of complexity.

What is your go-to tool or resource that you can't live without?

Screaming Frog is my one true love, especially as I'm used to crawling massive websites. It is a truly versatile tool.

What is something you learned in SEO that made you have an 'AHA' moment?

Quality over quantity! This has been consistently proven through the various index-trimming projects I've completed in the past, which have directly led to significant increases in organic traffic. It just makes so much sense: given Google's finite resources, it's logical that they would prioritize serving their bots, and ultimately users, only the most valuable and relevant content.

What is your proudest industry achievement?

My proudest industry achievement is speaking at BrightonSEO in 2025. For someone with stage fright, the idea of presenting to such a large audience initially seemed daunting. However, I truly love sharing SEO knowledge, and at Skroutz, our SEO team is very open about our work. We're always happy to offer a peek under the kimono of what we do so successfully day to day.

The experience turned out to be amazing, and it's only encouraged me to pitch to more conferences this year. It was incredibly rewarding to overcome a personal challenge while contributing to the wider SEO community.

What advice would you give those starting out in SEO?

I really admire Chloe Smith, an absolutely amazing SEO/human. Their unwavering passion for accessibility and diversity within the workplace truly inspires me. They are incredibly outspoken about their beliefs and passions, actively championing these crucial causes. Their dedication to making the industry more inclusive and accessible for everyone (have you seen Chloe speak at a previous WiTS Conf?) is something I deeply admire.

Finally, what empowers you to be the brilliant person you are?

For me, it's about resilience and finding deep purpose in my work. I approach every day understanding that not everything will go perfectly, but that perseverance through challenges is absolutely key. The dynamic nature of SEO, with its constant changes, continuously challenges me to be more adaptable. This ongoing need to learn and pivot has been an incredibly valuable transferable skill that extends far beyond my professional life.
