Introducing Ritah Augustine! Ritah is based in Porto, Portugal, originally from Kampala, Uganda. She has been working in SEO for the past three years, specialising in on-page optimisation and content strategy, helping small businesses grow their online presence and collaborating with and supporting teams whenever needed.

Beyond SEO, she is passionate about mentorship and shares her knowledge across tech with people back in Uganda, something she takes great pride in.

How did you get into SEO?

It was back in 2023 when I wanted to upskill my VA skills scrolling through YT stories and came across couple of VAs recommending digital marketing. I signed up for my first course, saw it was a wide field and had to niche down.

Social media and social ADs were the first choices but during my first internship, I worked more on content and onpage and that was it. Until now, still doing the same stuff and I love it.

What is your favourite SEO task?

I enjoy doing audits and recently learnt to do LLM analysis. they put a smile whenever I see that my recommendations are moving the needle.

What is your go-to tool or resource that you can't live without?

Screaming frog, SEO pro & claude chrome extensions. SF for tech and the extensions help to audit the site with leaving.

What is something you learned in SEO that made you have an 'AHA' moment?

Never doubt yourself as no one knows how to do SEO properly. We all learn by doing it and every win it is a new skill.

My 'AHA' was when i first did my content strategy. I thought it was a mess and won't make much impact. But my team and client loved it, made a huge positive impact and it is one of the best project i am proud of.

What is your proudest industry achievement?

Mentoring and teaching people back home in Uganda everything i know. We don't have much resources nor job market but i always encourage them to push to international markets even if the opportunities are limited.

What advice would you give those starting out in SEO?

Learn the basics and look for agency internships. SEO is easy in theory but hard to master in execution.

Give a shout out to a person in the industry who inspires you and tell us why

Mark William Cook was the first person I followed on LinkedIn when iI first started SEO and his content shaped my SEO understanding.

What empowers you to be the brilliant person you are?

Kindness and self discipline. This combo has helped me connect with people from different backgrounds and somehow managed to move places and environments that I never thought i could reach to.

Finally, how does it feel being part of the Women in Tech SEO community?

It gives me a sense of community that whenever I need professional advise, I have place to go without feeling judged.
