Last updated: 08/05/2025

At Women in Tech SEO, community is at the heart of everything we do.

We recently invited our WTS members to share candid feedback in our annual Community Survey—120 of you answered, and the insights you provided will shape our plans for the year ahead.

Here’s what we learned, why it matters, and how we’ll act on it.

Why We Survey

Your honest responses guide our decisions—whether it’s launching new initiatives, refining existing ones, or finding revenue streams that align with The WTS Way.

This year, we asked you:

  • Who makes up our community
  • How you discovered and joined WTS
  • What you love (and where we can improve)
  • How WTS supports your career
  • How we can keep WTS accessible and sustainable

Who’s in the Community?

What’s Working

Your favourite initiatives (by mentions) are:

  1. WTSFest (27%) – our SEO & digital marketing conferences
  2. WTSMentorship (21%) – one-on-one career guidance
  3. WTSNewsletter (19%) – curated insights and community highlights
  4. WTSKnowledge (16%) – resources created by WTS members

Nearly half of these mentions centered on “connection”—our most valued currency.

Can I say everything? I've never been disappointed by a WTS initiative. It's everything I ever wanted to help in my career.

What You Love About WTS

We loved these responses. Here's a quick snippet via word cloud of some of the brilliant themes across answers:

When asked what makes WTS special, your responses fell into five pillars:

These pillars guide every decision we make—ensuring WTS remains a place where you can learn, connect, and grow.

Being able to ask questions and no-one is demeaning. Everyone is super helpful. It's helpful in all facets, not just asking SEO questions. I've gotten advice on my career and also made a lot of career connections. I've found opportunities through these connections on WTS and everyone is genuinely out to support each other :)

Career Impact

  • Education topped the list (48%) of how WTS advances your career
  • Next came connection (29%), opportunities (14%), and amplification (8%)

We’ll keep creating spaces for learning and networking, because those are the engines of professional growth.

Connecting me with work opportunities, answering tough questions with empathy and thoughtfulness, allowing me to do the same and flex that muscle, speaking opportunities, new friends; WTS has impacted my career in a million ways!

What’s Missing (and What’s Next)

You’ve asked for:

  • Local events (40%) to meet face-to-face, close to home
  • Training (20%) for hands-on learning
  • A central resource hub (16%) to cut through information overload

Action items:

  • Pilot city-based meetups and workshops
  • Launch a searchable Resource Hub on our site
  • Continue amplifying voices through webinars, interviews, and our podcast

Local chapters or smaller, local in-person events. I would also love to see workshops make a comeback!

Keeping WTS Sustainable

WTSPartner program

Our WTSPartner program keeps membership free— 68% of you know about it, and 82% view partner brands more positively because of our endorsement.

Your trust extends to them, and that trust fuels our ability to serve you.

I respect a company getting involved in a partnership with WTS because it means they see value in what we do and want to further it. I take it to mean they're thoughtful and on the level. It lends legitimacy.

Staying sustainable

Knowing our goal is to keep WTS free for members with programs like WTSPartners, we asked y'all about additional monetisation strategies and you suggested:

  • Training programs (34%)
  • Member fundraising (24%)
  • Merchandise (15%)
  • Job board (10%)

We’ll explore these ideas against our values—ensuring any revenue stream enhances your experience.

Planning for Next Year

Community Initiatives

  • More local meetups & connection events
  • Expanded training offerings

Member Operations

Business Operations

  • Vet new revenue streams that uphold our values & member experience
  • Grow the WTSPartner program responsibly

Thank you to everyone who shared feedback! Your voice is our roadmap.
