Introducing

Egle Gudiskyte
!
Based in Sydney, Australia, Egle is the Head of SEO at a fast-growing agency Jaywing. Egle's spent the majority of her career working agency-side, meaning working across a wide variety of sectors including finance, retail, B2B, hospitality and more. While passionate about all things SEO, Egle is also passionate about making better use of technology to gain efficiencies for clients and unlock greater insight.

We asked her everything from how she first got into SEO to what empowers her to be the brilliant woman she is 💪🏽

How did you get into SEO?

As part of my degree I did a 1 year work placement as a digital marketing specialist where I was introduced to SEO. I liked learning about all digital marketing channels, however, SEO was my favourite. I loved that it requires technical & analytical thinking but also a lot of creativity.

What is your favourite SEO task?

I would say building website IA strategy as part the new website build! I love all things that it involves doing this task, from keyword research to navigation & internal linking strategy. Also, this task requires involvement of other specialists like UX, Design, Tech and I love working on projects together with other specialists and bouncing off ideas.

What is your go-to tool or resource that you can't live without?

Google Search Console - I love how much data you can pull from it and it's free! I use ScreamingFrog very often too, it's great not only for identifying tech issues but also auditing your content.

What is something you learned in SEO that made you have an 'AHA' moment?

Don't freak out when Google releases an update. Of course, Google algorithm changes can impact your organic rankings. However, if you don't see any significant ranking fluctuations, you probably haven't been affected by an update. So don't panic and don't implement some "quick fixes" than potentially could harm your website's organic performance. Always follow Google's Best Practises and focus on your long term SEO goals. Remember, SEO is not a sprit, it's a marathon.

What is your proudest industry achievement?

Growing and managing a team of 10! I'm very lucky to work with very talented team who also inspires & motivates me. They always make me feel so proud!

What advice would you give women who are starting out in SEO?

Don't be afraid to ask questions. There is only one stupid question is the one you don't ask. It can be very overwhelming to hear all SEO technical terms especially at the start of your career, so whenever you are unsure, just ask. If people around you don't know the answer to your question, there are some great community websites where you can post your question to get an answer.

Give a shout out to a woman in the industry who inspires you and tell us why

Marie Haynes and Aleyda Solis! I've learnt so much from these ladies. Always love listening to their podcasts/webinars and follow their blogs.

Finally, what empowers you to be the brilliant woman you are?

Don't be afraid to take a risk. You might win, you might fail, but you will definitely get stronger.
