Introducing

Krishna Shekhar
, CEO & Founder of Krish Marketing. Based in Hamburg, Germany and founder of her own SEO company based in Ahmedabad, India. She describes SEO as her passion alongside being a mother to two children.

We asked her everything from how she first got into SEO to what empowers her to be the brilliant woman she is 💪🏽

How did you get into SEO?

For me, SEO happened by chance. I graduated 12 years ago then took on a role as a content writer, where I got the chance to explore the website's search engine marketing. In no time at all, I found myself attracted towards SEO as a whole. I'm feeling nostalgic thinking of how the main focus back then was around SEO meta data, sitemaps and tons of directory submissions. The days where Diigo and StumbleUpon were the highest quality of directory submission websites. Gradually, I shifted from content writing to SEO.

What is your favourite SEO task?

Ah! It has to be Keywords Research. I love the process of identifying right and accurate keywords for the website. I believe keywords are the base of any SEO campaign and that the correct keywords could boost your SEO, the wrong ones could bring it down. So I always focus my effort and energy in keyword optimisation.

What is your go-to tool or resource that you can't live without?

Google Analytics has always been my favourite tool, I have a habit of checking Analytics data for measuring SEO performance and driving the SEO activities accordingly.

What is something you learned in SEO that made you have an 'AHA' moment?

There are many instances of SEO learnings in my life that have been an 'Aha' moment for me. The first project where I managed to rank a keyword in the first position and the constant change in SEO always keeps me on my toes.

What is your proudest industry achievement?

There is always ups and downs in any project I've worked on so for example, if a client's website gets impacted by an algorithm update, it is very challenging for me. But when I work hard to direct strategies and revive back the results - these are always my proudest achievements.

What advice would you give women who are starting out in SEO?

I would say JUMP in SEO! Initially, there were no training courses or academies that gave direction to perform SEO, but now there are lots of online material. Start practicing SEO. Make your own website, implement SEO on it and get started.

Consider applying for an internship to work on actual projects and get your hands dirty. Wishing all the best to those kick starting their career in SEO.

Give a shout out to a woman in the industry who inspires you and tell us why

I have been following plenty of amazing SEO women who inspire me to push my game, so a big thanks to all of them.

The one woman to point out is Kristina Azarenko - there is so much to learn from her, she's full of technical SEO treasures. I never miss reading her SEO Shop Up newsletter and I look forward to her YouTube videos as well.

Finally, what empowers you to be the brilliant woman you are?

No matter how hard a situation is, I always keep myself motivated and positive. I believe positivity towards life, affirming my thoughts into reality is what empowers me to keep going.
