Introducing

Minnie Mururi
! Based in Nairobi, Kenya, Minnie is an experienced SEO content writer and strategist with a strong technical SEO background. As the co-founder of Witty Content Writers, she has worked with numerous businesses, from SaaS and tech companies to pet brands to develop data-driven content strategies that drive results. When not working, Minnie loves to try different recipes, travel, and explore new cultures, which helps her gain insights and ideas for her SEO content writing business.

We asked her everything from how she first got into SEO to what empowers her to be the brilliant woman she is 💪🏽

How did you get into SEO?

I entered the SEO world in 2016 with a focus on content creation, and since then, I have dedicated my time to delivering the best results for my clients through data-driven strategies. My expertise in SEO content creation not only helps to engage audiences but also ranks well in search engines. In 2022, I developed a strong interest in technical SEO, which allowed me to expand my skill set and explore new ways to optimize websites. By combining my knowledge of content creation with technical SEO, I am able to deliver comprehensive solutions that drive traffic and improve search engine rankings.

What is your favourite SEO task?

My favourite task in SEO is keyword research because it's the foundation of content SEO. I like to compare keyword research with the foundation of a house. The weaker the foundation, the less durable the house would be. Keyword research is the foundation of content creation. When it is not throughout, your content creation efforts will go to waste. Keyword research allows me to make data-driven decisions that lead to better results, such as improved search engine rankings, increased organic traffic, and better engagement metrics.

What is your go-to tool or resource that you can't live without?

I would say that Reddit and Quora are the platforms I can't live without. I can't imagine creating content blindly without understanding what people really care about. They help you understand what questions the audience has about a particular topic By reading through threads and discussions, I gain insights into the pain points, challenges, and interests of my target audience.

What is something you learned in SEO that made you have an 'AHA' moment?

My "AHA" moment in SEO was realizing that there is no one solution to an SEO problem. Every solution 'depends' on the situation. At least, I no longer get annoyed when I hear 'it depends' for an answer.

What is your proudest industry achievement?

My proudest industry achievements include helping a client (pets forever) achieve significant increases in organic traffic and revenue through SEO content and achieving a 200% increase in traffic. This demonstrated the value of SEO and the power of collaboration between the client and the SEO team.

What advice would you give women who are starting out in SEO?

My advice to other women who are starting out would be to start small and continue learning. There's a lot to learn in SEO, but it's important to take things one step at a time so they cannot get overwhelmed. I would encourage them to take advantage of free SEO courses such as those offered by SEMrush and SERanking. It's also important for them to join SEO communities and create meaningful networks with other professionals in the industry. This can provide valuable opportunities for learning, collaboration, and mentorship.

Give a shout out to a woman in the industry who inspires you and tell us why

I would like to give a shoutout to Roxana Stingu, my mentor and teacher in the SEO industry. Roxana has dedicated herself to sharing her knowledge with not just me but with others. Her passion for SEO and willingness to help others have been a constant inspiration for me. Her generosity and commitment to empowering others in the industry make her a true role model for women in SEO.

Finally, what empowers you to be the brilliant woman you are?

What empowers me to be the brilliant woman I am in the SEO industry is the satisfaction of making a difference, being part of growth for many businesses, the opportunity to learn and grow, and being part of a supportive community of women.
