Interviewing Sandra Kajfes

Welcome to a new Weekly Interviews edition where we interview brilliant women in our industry and share their stories with the world! Anyone is welcome to share their story by simply filling this form, we encourage women from all walks of life in our industry to do so.

Introducing Sandra Kajfes! Based in PerΓΊ, Sandra began with SEO without actually knowing what SEO was. She's always worked with e-commerce, and knows how to make powerful content with the right structure! Right now, she has her eye on learning technical SEO. Aside from work, she considers herself a self-taught person, music passionate and a writer in constant progress.

We asked her everything from how she first got into SEO to what empowers her to be the brilliant woman she is πŸ’ͺ🏽

How did you get into SEO?

I've always been doing content, my whole life. My first degree is in journalism because I love to write, but also I'm so curious about strategies and how things work, that's how I got into Digital Marketing and haven't stopped learning since then. With SEO, all my jobs have been e-commerce content-focused, so I needed to improve my work, that's when I discovered that what I was doing was called SEO, and that was 3 years ago.

What is your favourite SEO task?

Right now, my favourite task is running audits. I love to analyze any size of the page and find interesting things to improve, and also! I enjoy doing keyword research and research patterns, I'm always amazed how the brain works when people want to find something, and how we can make a customer journey in search with that.

What is your go-to tool or resource that you can't live without?

SEMRush, Screaming Frog as well as Google Search Console.

What is your proudest industry achievement?

I've always struggled to show off what I know because everyone always had a second guess with what I was saying, but then I started to work as a freelancer (besides my full-time job) and the team I worked with trusted me 100%. With that, I was really happy and even more cause we created a webpage from zero and it reached (and stayed) number one, winning the ranking and performance competition!

What advice would you give women who are starting out in SEO?

Be curious. Because throughout the years, I have learnt that there is no just one way to do the SEO strategy. You can be creative, risky, and sometimes you may fail, but take it as a lesson. You will realize that sometimes you have a problem and you can't quite put your finger on it, and that's okay, sometimes a new point of view or a fresh start is very much needed.

And also, read and compare things, ask yourself "Does this work for me? Is this my particular situation?"

Give a shout out to a woman in the industry who inspires you and tell us why

Aleyda Solis and Kristina Azarenko! I knew about them because of the Women in Tech SEO slack group, and it made me realize that it is possible to shine big and work with the people you once only dreamed of.

I would also like to thank Areej AbuAli for creating this space, letting us meet with each other and learn from each other! This community really inspires me and gives me the confidence I need every day, no matter where we're from or how old we are...it's amazing the support I have felt in this group.

Finally, what empowers you to be the brilliant woman you are?

I always tell myself to be curious and take risks, and if I fail, let's get sad, but after that, embrace this failure and learn from it because nothing is that bad to think that we are not good enough :)
